LAND, AGAIN

BACK TO THE LAND, AGAIN Tuesday, September 12, 2017 By Rev. Dr. Larry Delano Coleman An entirely old-fashioned idea is to have collective or communal food production, processing, distribution for members of their communities and other consumers. It begins with a vision, a will, resources, labor, capacity, and then land, marketing, accounting. Then repeating, perfecting. This is not necessarily linear, after the vision. Any order of proceeding may do. Whatever works for you and for your family, your community, your church, your fraternity, sorority, lodge, school, social club, alumni; or for your business, collective, or current commune. The Amish/Mennonites do it. Over breakfast, the price of food was being discussed, when this thought recurred. My friends from the 1980’s were major proponents of collectives. In the 1990’s I visited a number of farms for sale in Bates County, and Lafayette County, Missouri. Today, I share the vision, in the hope that it may reignite imagination in someone, with the courage, faith, conviction, to begin or to extend this essential, primal work. If not, so mote it be.
