WELL-DRAWN FICTIONAL CHARACTERS
When a fictional character is well-drawn by a writer, a reader feels with them, hears with them, anticipates and sees with them; becomes them vicariously .
Harriet Beecher Stowe's UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, whose instant reading has sparked this thought, contains such characters, as did Alex Haley's ROOTS, Frank Yerby's THE DAHOMEAN, Mark Twain's HUCKLEBERRY FINN & TOM SAWYER. So too did Margaret Walker's JUBILEE have well-drawn characters. Alexander Dumas' COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO is tops right along side Richard Wright's unforgettable NATIVE SON.
