I STILL SING AMAZINGLY WELL
My voice cracked in the 6th grade. I was devastated ! My voice had been melodious . It had earned me a slot in the All-Kirkwood School District Choir for elementary kids.
I recall the adventures of walking with one or more classmates after school to distant grade schools for the practices . No practices for that predominantly white choir were ever held at our grade school, James Milton Turner Elementary, a practicality all-black grade school.
Still and notwithstanding it all, I was able to "Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow until I found my dream." I am still singing silently in verse and prose.
