Defiant Rose

by Rev. Dr. Larry Delano Coleman

 October chill does not still
The brilliance of its bloom.
Summer's drought cast no doubt
Upon its upon its inexorable perfume.
How brightly glows my defiant rose
...
Within my semi-wild garden.
Proudly preening I catch its meaning
From its erect ascent and bearing.
Come what may, I am here to stay
It regally proclaims.
Reds, pinks and indistinct's color
Its crimson palette.
Late summer rain helps to explain
This anomalous growth to some.
But, more sanguine I, look to the sky
For a much more certain source
