SNOW ME AWAY
“SNOW ME AWAY”
by Larry Delano Coleman
01/05/14
Snow has an innocent appearance to a child.
So fluffy, so white, so pretty, so bright.
What harm could it possibly do?
But they soon learn that snow's cold can burn.
And that its beauty can and will injure you.
My burning hands were immersed in big pans
of circulation-restoring water, after a snowball
fight, one cold winter night, left me all in tears.
Too anguished to argue with me, Momma
comforted me; while Daddy again lectured to me
about that snow, as befo'.
Now chastened and looking back, the general
lesson is that: snow will blow you away, that
snow can blow you away!
