MARK TWAIN AND BLACK PEOPLE
https://www.nytimes.com/…/from-twain-a-letter-on-debt-to-bl…
I am a very ardent fan of iconic author, Mark Twain of Missouri, having read most of his major novels, short stories, travelogues, etc. Imagine my surprising delight to read, in EMANCIPATION: THE MAKING OF THE BLACK LAWYER 1844-1944(1993) by my former Howard Law School Professor, J. Clay Smith, Jr., that "Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, paid for Warner T. McGuinn's board at Yale Law School in 1887." p. 35. I read his footnote and found this excellent "New York Times" article in support, saying Twain had paid Guinn's tuition AND his board!
