NEW AND NEWS
"NEWS" AND "NEW" EXAMINED
There are far more occurrences , than there are "news" coverage accounts. No one can cover them all, an impossible undertaking. So, editorial judgments are made about which "news" is covered by whom.
"All the news that's fit to print," is the motto of one news consortium. Its motto tacilyt concedes this fact that not all "news" gets coverage.
The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun:
"What has been will be again , what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1:9.
Many vulnerable consumers are preconditioned to value the "new" over the old by, from childhood, by advertising and public relations firms on mass media outlets, and online, to get them to spend more money on their goods, repeatedly.
New and news are different. But they both conflate in the public mind as though they were the same. What is "new" is what is new to you, regardless of its age.
"News," on the other hand, is what someone else says is newsworthy under a covert news value system that is purportedly "objective,"
but is truly subjective, in economic, political, cultural, personal, legal terms and norms, often biased too!
Whatever interests you, whatever is "new" or is "news" to you must be shared more broadly to increase the knowledge base of readers and writers and to thereby contribute to the coverage of more newsworthy, helpful content, online, beyond the continuing repetition of adverts to agreed-upon news or products.
