DIFFERENCES ENERGIZE
DIFFERENCES CAN ENERGIZE
Differences can energize. Positive and negative charges do empower. Our experimental nation has been made into what it is because of its differences, in spite of differences.
Differences distinguish its leaders:
Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, James Madison and Polk, Ulysses Grant, Andrew Johnson, Alexander Hamilton , John Jay, Salmon P Chase, Roger Taney, John Marshall, Harry Truman, Theodore and Franklin Delano Roosevelt etc.
Differences distinguish its pleaders:
Phyllis Wheatley, Benjamin Banneker, James Forten, Olaudo Equiano, Prince Hall, Richard Allen, Absalom Jones, Prince Hall, Robert Purvis, Frederick Douglass, Nat Turner, Denmark Vesey, Martin R Delany, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Samuel Ringgold Ward, William Wells Brown, Booker T Washington, W. E. B. DuBois, Martin L. King, Jr., Stokely Carmichael, Barack Obama, etc.
These differences between leaders and pleaders have propelled our unique nation ineluctably toward its very high founding ideals of liberty, justice, equality for all, in spite of itself. In spite of and because of: slavery, racism, legal and extralegal lynching, imposed poverty, income disparity, miseducation, tyranny, the differences have yet energized!
Like an ensigns on a far hill we are called toward our founding ideals.
