LEWIS CLARK YORK SACAJAWEA
York the "servent" of William Clark, was called "Big Medicine " by the Indians, because of his power, agility, knowledge, and hunting prowess. They gave him many wives as tribute , deeming this bison-type brother to be the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which the true leaders gladly acquiesced in ! Sacajawea, the only woman on the expedition, was the wife of a French trapper, who came along. Her presence and translation ability, also curried favor among the tribes, and decreased suspicions of any belligerent tendencies. A statue of Lewis, Clark, York, and Sacajawea overlooks the conjunction of the Kaw and Missouri Rivers stands in Kansas City, Missouri from a high bluff.
