DR. KING CONSIDERED IN 2016
DR KING CONSIDERED IN 2016
Although Dr. Martin L. King, jr. was absolutely right in stating about the 1964 "war on poverty," that "the government was only willing to appropriate such a limited budget that it could not launch a good skirmish against poverty, much less a full-scale war;" it is nevertheless true that millions of us, myself included, were so able to divide these "two fish and five barley loaves" --Matthew 14: 17-20--as to be able to feed our families, to feed our extended extended families, to feed ourselves, with a remainder on which we continue to feed as now !
P.95, WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE CHAOS OR COMMUNITY by Martin Luther King, Jr. (1967)
Sadly , there were millions of other black people, in the North and South, who did not successfully do as we had done, as, in fact, many of their own other family members had done, with these few government crumbs, before the anti poverty tap was turned off, by the now-backlashing Republican Congress under Richard M. Nixon!
There matters yet stand in 2016!
That lack of money explains police brutality, mass incarceration, and so many other ills now besetting descendants of those who did not maximize opportunities in the brief 1960s' flow of jobs, loans, grants!
