MEDITATIONS ON MISSOURI
MEDITATIONS ON MISSOURI
Missouri is a southern state with a midwestern patina. For the Missouri Compromise of 1820 brought Missouri and Maine into Statehood in 1821. This led to a shaky Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854: this brought on the Border Wars, 1854-1859, bisected by the Dred Scott decision, 1857. This brought on John Brown, Harper's Ferry, 1859; Senator James Lane and the First Kansas Colored, 1862; Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War - Freedom War, 1861-1865: Reconstruction. Lincoln University: Homer G. Phillips, Esq., of Howard University: Lloyd Gaines: Lucile Bluford: and Missouri legislature's rural ropes about its cities throats, impinging, strangling them all.
