ZORA NEALE HURSTON WENT TO HOWARD
So often, too often, Zora Neale Hurston is not mentioned as having attended Howard University from 1921-1924, before later studying at Barnard College and Columbia University , the latter two being always mentioned. I happened to notice this again, in, of all places, the "Afterword" of her autobiography DUST TRACKS ON A ROAD (1942, 1995), p. 287. It was written by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., who ought to know better than to be so risqué , so blase' with this important writer's true cultural and important pedagogical background !
