CROSS-OVER
MORE THAN A CROSS-OVER!
Ideally other young (and not-so-young) African American college basketball ball players will learn from those three spoiled, stupid, immature UCLA basketball team's shoplifting thieves in China that, as the Bible teaches, "your lives are not your own; you belong to God."
Hopefully these three might also learn from their own highly embarrassing, international examples, that they are not alone, but instead they are all intimately, "Inextricably connected" says Dr. Martin Luther King to the rest of us and to one another, as humans, as Americans, as athletes, as souls.
"Bad" can, has, often does, come out of good people, just as the "good" can, has, sometimes does, come out of some bad people. President Donald Trump, for example, through you, has most admirably distinguished himself and his legacy by diplomatically securing your release from the Chinese government, which, as assiduously, has acquitted itself as mercifully and nobly. Everything that you do, or do not do, impacts others! Let this be a lesson to you.
More broadly, as African American young men, we elders thank you for teaching certain of us--even unintentionally--much more than the virtues of a cross-over dribble or a 360-slam-dunk. Such grander lessons are essential for aspiring younger people to know. There is eternal virtue in ethics, right-living, and morals, that are more socially important than fancy hoops sports techniques any day! While what you three did on the day of your misdeeds was intrinsically wrong in any culture, in all religions, and in non-religions, your grave grandiose wrongs, may yet be used for right!
Although you did not set out to be heroes, by divine mystical historical inversion such you may become so, for your deeds will not be forgotten in the mall on that day. Prayerfully you have been specially spared to be exemplary embodiments for all baller- brothers like you: near or far, born or unborn, male or female, old or young, student or worker! May all people see you, abhor your behavior, remember their own wrongful delicts, and recall grace!
