GOD BLESSES THE WOMB TO CONCEIVE
I posted an article about a female pastor today who is pregnant. She has decided to remain in her pulpit, and to have that child! Needless to say this has set off alarm bells among certain persons. The father of the child is not named, nor his status identified in relation to her. So, one must conclude that she was not married, when she had unprotected sex and conceived their child.
I am happy about her decisions, first, to have her child, rather than to abort it; second, to remain in her pulpit pending parturition; third, to go public online with these facts, so that finally some measure Christian heterosexuality may have its day, there having been so must controversy the other way. Women get pregnant, when men inseminate them. That natural event was considered a blessing in the Old Testament. In the New Testament Jesus' parents were not married at all! In the days of African American slavery, marriage was more a meeting of the minds, the masters' minds, than it was Christian ceremony. Yet millions of us descended from dalliances possibly formalized by jumping over a broom, if that much. Now, being an AME, my attitude towards women in ministry is less fundamentalist, more accommodating than that of some of my COGIC, Baptist, or nondenominational friends. We AME's even have female Bishops and Presiding Elders.
But, all of that aside , marriage is not mentioned until Genesis 34. But wife is in Genesis 2. Wife is first. Ritual is second. The letter kills. The spirit quickens. Jesus forgave the woman caught in the act of adultery! Can't you who claim to follow JESUS?
