ROOT OF AMERICAN HISTORY AND CUTURE
At the root of American history and culture was the absence of race as caste, or as infirmity--just indentured servitude of Africans and Europeans.
The later engraftment into the Declaration of Independence and U. S. Constitution, of racial preferences and distinctions--driven by profits--led inevitably to war; deferred but foreseen, even by Thomas Jefferson who "trembled for his country when he reflected that God was just, and that his justice would not sleep forever." Jefferson's mea culpa was prophetic then as it is now.
