http://go.si.edu/site/PageServer?pagename=mm_stories
FORMED IN 1866, FOR MILITARY SERVICE WAY "OUT WEST"--FAR AWAY FROM THE SOUTH--ON THIS VETERANS' DAY, 2014, THESE LEGENDARY "BUFFALO SOLDIERS" DESERVE MORE RECOGNITION THAN THEY HAVE HERETOFORE RECEIVED FROM MEDIA, HISTORIANS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WITH "THE INDIAN WARS," SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR, PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN WAR, AND MEXICAN BORDER WAR VICTORIES AND EXCELLENCE; 19 CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR WINNERS; FIRST BLACK ARMY COMMANDERS, LIKE HENRY O. FLIPPER AND CHARLES YOUNG, WHILE BEING SUBJECTED TO RANCID DISCRIMINATION AND RECRIMINATIONS BY RACIST AND JEALOUS AND VENGEFUL WHITE OFFICERS. I PAUSE TODAY TO SALUTE THESE EXTRAORDINARY UNITS OF THE 9TH AND 10TH CAVALRY'S HEROISM, HORSEMANSHIP, LEADERSHIP, FOR THEIR ESCORT OF WAGON TRAINS, NATIONAL PARKS TRAILBLAZING, AND SO MUCH MORE. EXTRAORDINARY PATRIOTS! BOOYAH! BOOYAH!
