VOTING IS SECULAR RELIGION

On Election Day Daddy worked at the polls, I am told, in Rockhill, Missouri. I was away at college or living in KC. But coming up as a child , I remember going door-to-door handing out literature to prospective voters. And I recall election night television viewing! It was high drama in our house with Daddy providing expert commentary! Voting was far more than ritual for our family. Voting was a secular religion! And Daddy and Mama were priest and priestess of the Coleman family cult!

TRIBUTE TO TWO BROTHERS I was blessed to have had two very different brothers, both deceased . The eldest, our eldest , was Elvis Mitchell Coleman, Jr., most famous in Gary, Indiana and in St. Louis County. We called him Buddy. My younger brother, our younger brother, was Stephen Messiah Coleman of St. Louis and Chicago, most famously. I called him Stevo! Buddy was straight-up street in carriage, demeanor, and in style. Stevo was his opposite: scholarly , reserved, damn-near Republican! Buddy was five years my senior. Stevo was five years my junior. I rocked their median essentially. I loved both men dearly, even though we all experienced life unevenly, differently, as brothers. Stevo I taught many things. Buddy taught me many things. I benefited from the love and the allegiance of both men: emotionally, culturally. I remain ever indebted to each one. Rest well my brothers. See you soon on the other side of dawn!

I JUST CAN'T STOP THINKING I just can't stop thinking about a Facebook post that I shared yesterday about biblical characters having been been derived from Egyptian pharaohs. It is reposted below. It stirred up the gifts within! Can't stop thinking about how our African American forbears knew, without actually knowing this; saw without actually seeing this; heard without actually hearing this; felt without actually feeling this. This in-seminal fact about that "Old Ship of Zion;" about their "Old Time Religion....it was good for Paul and Silas, good for the Hebrew children and it is good enough for me!" They were able to see through the forms and fashions ; to see beyond colors and hair texture to essence! And now, we, having held on to the hope of the faith that they had imbibed from their faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Mary's baby, who died for the truth on the cross! FIAT TIME AND FIAT MONEY

FIAT TIME AND FIAT MONEY? Time is attuned to the sun, except when time is defined by mankind. In America , our time rolled back by one hour, by law, today, November 4, 2018. A type of temporal vertigo visits some of us by reason of time being changed by the government. For others of us, change is not felt . Yet, time is the basis of life itself. Our hearts beat in time . We eat , sleep, arise, work in time; pulses beat in time; we are aligned in time. We are born in time. We walk, we talk, sexually mature , mate, and, in the end, die in time. Time defines, differentiates, demarcates, all life. Being out of sync with natural time does not seem to have had any ill effects upon us, yet. We fumble a few engagements by one hour and we blame it on our change of time. Time changes twice a year from so-called standard time to daylight savings time . Is either time really real? Or, are both American times contrived? Do we live in fiat time ? Outside of true, diurnal time ? Do we really know what time is true? If time is fiat is our currency fiat? The dollar is the world's standard. Dollars are the "lingua franca" of domestic and of international trade, commerce in America, world wide. If time is manipulated is the dollar? Once, exchanges were in tangibles, this for that, some these for those ; then, came specie: gold and silver specie, ("don't take no wooden nickels"); then, just paper money, dollars; then, notes, bills, credits; then just "full faith and credit" of the United States in God we trust! We have both fiat time and dollars! This may not be a revelation to all, but it is sobering to me, a votary of nature and of natural philosophy in all of its manifold varieties or forms.

VICTORIES OVER OURSELVES The late Dr. Ivan Van Sertima admonished me on the critical need for accuracy in my factual presentations, in 1983, while he was at my house in Kansas City, listening to me speak on KCUR radio. He wrote THEY CAME BEFORE COLUMBUS and founded the "Journal of African Civilizations." He was my friend. I had twice brought him here to speak on his books. "Dr." John G. Jackson of Chicago, by way of Aiken, South Carolina, also a house guest and friend of mine in 1983, is author of several seminal works, MAN GOD AND CIVILIZATION, INTRODUCTION TO AFRICAN CIVILIZATIONS, AND CHRISTIANITY BEFORE CHRIST. Dr. Jackson had curiously sent to me a drafted cylindrical object in a letter, upon returning to Chicago, whose volume he had asked me to calculate, for whatever reason. I deferred to calculate the volume. He died. The end of that I thought. But, because precision defeats imprecision, because perfection defeats imperfection, because accuracy defeats inaccuracy; justice defeats injustice, truth defeats untruth, love defeats hate, and good, evil, so we the divine heirs and descendants of primordial mankind and civilization are precisely constrained to employ perfection, accuracy, justice, truth, love and good, to overcome the sedulous purveyors of the virtuous opposites in patterns of systematic oppression for centuries over us. Thereby to quote the late Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., we achieve a "double victory!" First, over ourselves, and thereby over them!
